French Street

Risa, having abandoned both the detective and Ms. Rollins (the first and the latter to her fate), hobbled her way over to French Street. She was dragging her injured ankle, and now in the open street she could no longer see the shambling corpses nor that slimy frog freak chasing her!

"I need... I need to get to the station, somewhere... anywhere and hide!" the young woman panted, thanking God that the street was clear for the moment. She couldn't stop though. She was unarmed, injured, and still unsure if Ms. Rollin's was filling enough for that frog-thing that had half swallowed her whole. Where the cop go anyway?

She couldn't answer such questions, she simply pushed herself to flee as far as she could in spite of the throbbing pain in her ankle.

The Jeep's headlights swung onto the dark street as the vehicle swerved from Good onto French. Rebecka was not going to stop for anything!

"-I SAID SHUT UP!!" Rebecka screamed, and saw the wall before Zoey exasperated the situation and her, by screaming at the blue steel wall ahead of them! "I CAN FUCKING SEE THAT HELEN KELLER, SHUT THE FUCK UP!" She screamed as she swerved the vehicle around, and went back the way they came!

"Okay, we're going to skip everything, and take Stoneville Road, we're getting the fuck out of here!" Rebecka screamed, before shaking her head. "What am I doing," she turned to Zoey. "You can't HEAR ME ANYWAY!" She grumbled, glancing at the janitor in front of them, this time FLOORING THE PEDAL!

The 4x4 zoomed through the man, making him fly over the hood like the woman, who, if the bounce the vehicle made was any indication, was now curled up in her back tire well, what was left of her anyway, as she continued down the road! She didn't look at Zoey, wouldn't. "Yep. I just did that. Yup. I just don't care." Rebecka said, frustrated, and now heading northbound on Good Street, flying under the Raccoon Street Overpass, bound towards the private school, but hung a left on French Street instead.

Zoey was still deaf, and held on tight as they sped through the city like wild dogs! "HEY WATCH IT, YOU'RE GONNA-" She began, when the Jeep slammed through the zombie, and ran over the one they hit before. Double tap. She blinked, and slowly turned to the annoyed Rebecka. "DUUUDE, YOU JUST RAN INTO HIM! HAVE YOU GONE BONKERS?!" She screamed.

Risa had found herself taking refuge inside an unlocked apartment complex's mudroom, where she remained for several hours, trying her mobile and acting quiet. She could hear gun shots all over the city, among moaning of the dead outside...

She was getting hungry, but her ankle wasn't so bad now as it had been before. She hobbled out the door, into the evening air when she saw the speeding vehicle with its head lights!

"Wait, please!!" She screamed hobbling out onto the curb, into the street, the woosh from the Jeep passing her made her skirt lift, and she held it down with one arm and held out her other as it sped away from her! "PLEASE!! HELP!!" She screamed, hobbling after it, watching it heading towards Clemens Street further up! "NO! PLEASE!!!" She screamed, and jogged painfully after it!

Crossing French Street bridge and onto French Street proper, the Ambulance barreled down the road, and into the headlights of a speeding Jeep! "OH SHIT!" Scott screamed, breaking turning the wheel hard to the right, the Jeep honking as it scratched the side of the vehicle in sparks and continued to ride towards where they had left! The birds likely smacking into their window, and the dogs splattering against the Jeep's front end as it traveled north! Worse yet, he saw a young girl, crying in the middle of the street! "HOLD ON!" He screamed to everyone, activating the air brakes and swerving just enough to avoid flattening the young woman in the road!

The vehicle came to a complete stop, and the engine hissed. Panting, he turned to Reiko. "You okay?" He asked, before looking back at the others. "Is everyone okay?"

Rebecka could just, barely hear the voice of someone calling for help as she drove by the group of tenement buildings on the left side of the Ivy Street Private Academy. She made a cursory glance in the mirror, to see the poor girl in the street, waving. She felt her heart sink, and lowered her eyes, ignoring her-

She screamed, and could hear Zoey scream something obvious as her vehicle sparked against theirs and suddenly was flying through a murder of crows that bounced off their windshield and cracked the glass in places as they crossed the bridge! "Shit shit shit! What the fuck is going on?!" She screamed, swerving onto Clemens!

Edward was on his feet, and out the door of the ambulance, guns raised in a split second. The SPAS-12 and modified M4 burst to live as he started blasting the few remaining infected dogs that managed to avoid being splattered by the Hummer's bullbar bumper. There were only three of th things left that fell in short order to the 5.56mm and 12 Ga Birdshot.

"Clear!" he called out, as he looked around, just waiting for the other infected to be drawn by the noise of the gunfire. "Is everyone ok back there?!" he called out.

Reiko was surprised by the approaching Jeep as much as Scott was, and holding onto the door, she kept herself from flopping about as Scott struggled to keep the heavy, swaying EMS Truck from rolling over! Soon, however, it came to a stop. She turned to Scott and nodded. "I'm fine," she began, before hearing Ed kick the rear doors open and getting to work. She did the same, swinging the door into a crow pecking at the window, taking shotgun in one hand, her nail bat in another, she slammed the nail bat into the bird, swung it away and then brought up the stubby 870 like a pistol and fired a shell into a pair hovering above! They dropped and she used the bat to operate the pump-action, sweeping the area with the shotgun, and now stared at the girl in the headlights:



"Clear of enemies, got a girl over here... she looks worse for wear, but not a zombie!" She called back to the others.

Cha-CHUNK!

Jack pumped the shotgun as he followed up Ed's swift pace, picking up the 590A1 and shouldering the rubber stock against his shoulder, his eyes gleaming a silvery color in the street's light as he backed Ed up!



Ka-BANG! Cha-CHUNK! Ka-BANG!

Beyond tearing the infected birds apart, he swiftly dodged a jumping pooch, butt-stroking its skull with the back end of the shotgun as it was still in the air, sending it against the ambulance's loading bay much to the other occupants surprise! He pinned it there with his boot, the beast snarling and trying to claw at him and bite his ankle as he left it suspended there, struggling.



Smirking, Jack draws the Para-14 HiCapacity M1911 from his holster, the 14+1 capacity .45 smoothly clearing the dropleg holster's leather pouch. "Settle down, little doggie!" He says to the beast, as he level's the barrel to its snarling head:



BANG!

The shell pierced its skull, and Jack released his hold on its neck, letting it slide off his boot. He turned around, handgun raised, shotgun held by the pump in his other hand, glancing over to Ed with a grin. "Oh, I'm fine Mister." he says and took a sweep of the street on both sides with his eyes. "Seems clear, but for how long I wonder?" He inquires, sweeping the street with his .45, whilst Ed's attention turned to those still in the ambulance. He could hear Reiko hit and shoot something as well, and then state something about a girl. "Oh, another lost soul to add to the party." he chuckled.

Carrie drew her Inox 92 from the waistband, hidden by the fanny pack above her ass, drawing the stainless steel Beretta as she exited with both Ed and Jack, backing them up with small arms fire:



The 9mm handgun put two other dogs to sleep, and three crows with a simple sweep and pull of the slender silver trigger:

Ping-Ping-Ping-Ping-Ping-!

There seemed to be nothing left on the street. "Clear." She replied to Ed, and glanced back to the others as well, before watching their 9 o'clock as Jack had their 3. "A girl?" She replied to Reiko's statement glancing slightly to her left, and could see Reiko near the sidewalk, approaching someone in front of the EMS Vehicle. Nothing was shambling on the sidewalk it seemed, yet.

Rafe held onto Jane as the vehicle swerved wildly left and right, feeling something hit the vehicle. The teacher and the nurse held each other, screaming, before the vehicle came to a sharp and sudden stop. He glanced down at her, and she looked up at him with some alarm.

As Ed exited the vehicle, he turned in the direction, observing the larger man accompanied by Carrie and Jack, eliminate the threats that had still pursued them. He raised the 1887, the modified AR-15A2 still slung on his shoulder:



He kept guard of the interior of the Ambulance and got pretty disturbed by Jack's execution of the animal with an almost playful manner. He's absolutely havin' the time of his life, ain't he? He thought, feeling mixed about the so called 'Ex Spec Ops' soldier. He silently turned to Ed and nodded. "We're right as rain, just a bit shaken up is all, Ed." he replied, before glancing behind him, looking through the windshield to see the girl that everyone was talking about. "I've got the fort, check her out." Rafe said to the others already outside, and hunkered down to stand guard.

Risa felt like she was going to be run over by the ambulance once she saw it screech into view, bringing up her arms and turning away, bracing herself for impact!

...Thankfully that didn't happen.

Then, several gunshots echoed throughout the street. She swung her arms back down, and sharply turned her attention to the action, and saw, not EMS staff, but a rag tag group of people take out flying crows and dogs! "What the hell... is going on?!" She cried! Before the fighting finished. A gothic looking maid? Spotted her, and made the others aware of her. She backed up slightly, before the woman stepped into view. She was pretty, but looked oddly slimy and irritated... a bloody nail bat in one hand, a stubby shotgun in the other. Then, there was the guy in green and camouflage. He looked like he lived in a cabin and rarely bathed... There was a woman, curvy and tall, in jeans too tight to be legal, and a brown leather jacket and short black hair. She looked oddly familiar to her, a friend of her mothers? No... she looked... looked like Mister Taylor! I wonder... no, that can't be, he mentioned his twin sister but... no it just cant be that much of a coincidence! She told herself, and thus was feeling okay about this lot- especially when she met eye to eye with the tall man, dressed entirely in black.

"Those people... in the jeep... they ditched me..." she said, shakily, shivering. "They saw me, try to flag them down, and they just kept on driving... I-I need to get to the police station-!" She continued, gasping suddenly. "My-my teachers, Mr. Taylor, Ms. Rollins! Th-they need help, and that cop! Please, you gotta help them!" She pleaded, almost on the verge of tears!

Ed turned around quickly after getting the all clear from Jack, Gwen, Carrie and Rafe in short order, then he made his way to the front of the ambulance to check out the girl Gwen had mentioned. He lowered his guns as he approached the girl, she didn't seem to be symptomatic right now.

"You ok over there kid?" he asked as he approached the girl, dressed in a school uniform. He holstered his guns over his shoulders "Someone cover me?" he asked as he reached down into the improptu medkit pouch he made out of the surgeon tools and medical supplies from the hospital, and fetched out a small flashlight. He turned it on, lighting up the girl.

"Hey, it's ok. We won't abandon you here. Come on, hop in. We're heading to RPD HQ right now." he said, and nodded in Jack's direction. "Ok, I didn't get a license plate read on the jeep. I dunno if I should separate and track them down or not... Seems like something I'd do if things were normal around here, but I've got a feeling I'd better stick with you lot at least until we can get the civilians into the police station safely." Ed mused even as he helped the girl into the back of the ambulance. "Whats your name kid?" he asked her with a smile.

Risa looked up at the large man, wincing as his light fell upon her. "R-risa. Risa Nakajima, a highschool student from Ivy Academy over there," She says, pointing in the direction of the private school. "Please, you need to help my teachers, and this cop who tried to help, I- I left them, a couple of hours ago, some mutant thing fell out of the trees and... please, just a quick look!" she exclaimed as she steps towards them, wincing due to her red ankle.

Carrie glanced the girl over, and thought she recognized her. "Wait... your Dr. Nakajima's kid, aren't you?" She spoke up, and upon getting closer, smiled. "Yes, you gotta be! You look just like her. What the hell are you doing out here?" She asked, before noting the ankle. "Keep the med kit out, her ankles red, slightly swollen..." she noted to everyone. "I'm Carrie, you might know my younger brother? Robbie? He's a teacher at the Academy, teaches History?" She inquired, leaning over with her hands on her knees, smiling at Risa warmly.

Reiko approached and scoped the area around them. Her request to save her teachers and a cop seemed a bit ludicrous to ask. "You said a 'couple of hours', kid, I don't think they're around if you left them hours ago. It's best we just continue on to the station." She explained in a cold manner. "Its not what you wanna hear, but listen- these things? The zombies, the dogs, the birds? It isn't the worst of it, and you said some mutant fell from the trees? I don't think they're worth the risk for the rest of our lives." She said sensibly enough, at the situation as a whole.

Jack remained silent as Reiko gave her thoughts on the matter, and reasonable to think of the group they had now than potentially lose lives to a handful of people who could be all rights dead already. Still... the possibility may be worth the risk. He grabbed Ed by the arm, and pulled him gently to him, to keep the girl out of ear shot. "Ed, I doubt the people she spoke of are still alive, but give me a few minutes to check it out just in case? At worst, there's nothing but corpses, at best, we find someone alive. And... even if they're not alive, the cop may have a weapon or two worth scavenging, a radio potentially, munitions as well as batteries." He explained. "I leave it up to you, big guy." he says, clapping the man's leather shoulder.

He backs away and started heading over towards the private school's grounds, shotgun slung across his shoulder as he waved with his left hand without glancing back. "I'll radio ya, if its serious! It'll be just a few minutes. Promise." he called back, as he walked over to Ivy Street.

Reiko walked up to the few 'troublesome' shamblers, and distpatched them quietly with the nail bat. She was... getting used to it, beneath her cool, experience demeanor. Granted, she's killed someone before, but...that was different. She watched as the long nails impacted the skull of the former human, and realized just how deadly her prop was now. To think, this thing only tasted melon flesh before... She thought before kicking the corpse off her nails, and then turned to the next, silently dispatching them. Ones, further off, seemed to pose little threat for now, so she let them be...

"Heh, so you do know him. Yeah, Robbie's a sweetheart for a big guy." Carrie commented as she took the medkit from Ed and began apply a bandage just to compress the wound, and cover the scrapes whilst handing her some aspirin for the swelling. "He's a big boy, he can handle himself, so don't worry about Robbie, kay?" She says with a smile to the nineteen year old. Truly, he's built for this kinda thing... She thought to herself, and then stood up. "Okay, if we are sticking around, waiting for Red there to get back, we'll need to re-organize our weapons and supplies, reload, redistribute, take note of our current weaponry we've all got on hand and then distribute a weapon to some of us who may not be equipped with anything. Teaching people how to use them however, well... we can get to that later." She explained to Ed.

She watched the man in green walk off towards the school, then turned to the one they called 'Ed'. "Risa Nakajima," she reintroduced herself, to him this time. "My name is Risa..." she says, before glancing back to the man in green who was already across the street, crossing the field onto Ivy Street. She turned to Carrie, and nodded. "Yeah, Mr. Taylor's... resourceful. I'm sure he's fine. Ms. Rollins, Ms. Rollins was taken by a large, slimy... it looked like a frog, but more salamander? And it was bipedal, it had a tale and a weird sound to it too-"

She froze in place. "No, it can't be!" She cried, looking around desperately. "That-that's the sound it makes!!" She screamed, running into Carrie's arms!

Ed's head snapped around towards the direction of the sound, abandoned shopfronts and debris greeted his eyes from the darkened store interiors that lined either side of the ruined road.

His eyes started to light up again.

"Carrie, get the girl into the ambulance, and lock the doors behind you. Now." Ed said, raising the shotgun towards the stores.



His eyes and senses started casting about the street. He took deep steadying breaths through his nose, not only to steady his aim, but to catch the scent of anything untoward.

He could smell the putrid stench of the undead, and very dead infected corpses, both animal and human origin, but he also smelled that familiar mouldy, clammy sent he smelled twice before. Those damn froglike monsters. "Another one of those Froglike creatures?" he said to himself. "How many of these things were produced?"
