Campus Security Office

Ethan Pembroke, bleeding and pale, shambled his way down the familiar corridors of the university. Sweating profusely, his wounds temporarily managed by a makeshift compression bandage and duct tape from a Janitor's closet, but he couldn't do much about the massive bite to his neck. His memories were foggy since he helped Brianna, gave her a few of his spare magazines and lead the zombies away from her as she ran off to safety... hopefully. He hoped she made it to the station, the frequency he wrote down should... should in theory, allow him to turn the Campus Radio antenna into a relay point, so that the RPD could bounce off the larger antenna and thus have access throughout the city with their radios in a sort of private, yet local area network. It wouldn't be secure, but that was kind of the point... it would allow them to hear and be heard. Speak through this cloud of uncertainty...

A click from the metal casing hitting the wall and then rolling on the floor as Ethan took out Billy, a fellow security guard who had turned to him but forgot that he apparently had been chewed alive by those zombies. He watched Billy fall, the bloody pool his fatal wound created pooled with the older, darker blood of Jenny, one of the teachers of the uni who he didn't recognize till he saw her face- she was denuded of flesh from the neck to her waist... He held back bile climbing into his throat, and used the wall, trailing a line of blood to his destination.

Swiping the ID Card, Ethan pushes through the high security doors of the Security Room.He bolted the door behind him with one of the computer chairs and turned to face the command center. Any camera on the campus grounds were displayed in the multiple monitors. A pool of drying blood nearby the desk was from Carl, who was Ethan's partner this shift, and the first of those things to bite him.



Carl's story resonated in his mind now, as he turned to the man he put down and covered with a curtain from one of the class rooms. Complaining of being sick since he got bit by a homeless guy on the way to work, as Carl only had lived fifteen minutes away by foot... Ethan had been distracted by the chaos of a fight on one of the monitors, and it was too late by the time Carl bit him. He wouldn't stop, so he shot him.

He slumped into the chair, his stabproof vest shifting up against the undersides of his arms made him groan in pain from his arm and shoulder wounds. He grumbled, and slid the computer chair to the monitors and handset mic for the loudspeakers, and radios of campus security.

He observed the monitors, and looked for signs of survivors... there were survivors being held inside the Gymnasium... they needed to be evacuated quickly, before they were trapped out here. He knew the city was only to get worse, and they needed to get who they could to safety as quickly as they could. We need a school bus, something... He thought to himself, and began toggling the cameras on his monitor, looking through the ones that didn't fail, while the Umbrella Inc logo spun on one of the monitors to the far left of him.

He turned on the radio while he did this, multi-tasking, hoping Bri made it... it felt like hours since he'd seen her or another living being...

The radio message was broken up, but he recognized the voice being Officer Matsuo from the RPD! Ethan smiled, his face dripping in sheets of sweat perked up a little as he smiled silently to himself. She made it through... He glances to the radio network devices, focusing his energy on those instead... even as more bizarre creatures were beginning to show up on the cameras around the campus...

"Matsu, adjust your... frequency. Can you... hear me?" He grunts, it hurt to do little actions such as turning a knob, his right arm swelling and felt like it was on fire. Infection? Hmm... great. He thought, and continued to work on the issue. "Matsuo, this is Pembroke. You...ugh. Need... to adjust your frequency. I can't hear you properly, get.. on the right frequency..." he gulped, his vision getting more hazy. Shit... loss of blood? Or am I getting a fever? Fuck... need to stay awake. He thought, and cleared his throat. "Adjust your frequency RPD, over!" He shouted, his voice hoarse.

There was static and unintelligible chatter from the radio... silence... then occasionally, Ethan would hear someone counting, the voice garbled as Matsuo's voice came through:

"26, 27, twent-" before becoming garbled again!

Pembroke shot forward, speaking into the standing mic. "27! 27!!" he shouted back, hearing her clearly for a moment before she was going back into a faded garbled mess again!

Ethan let out a short breath... sighing with relief. He leaned over the mic... and pushed the button to speak. "Glad to hear another living voice. This is Ethan, Matsuo. How are things on your end, over."

His voice was clear as crystal... his ragged breathing told of a tired, injured man left alone for many hours, separated from comrades.

Kaori closed her eyes and smiled genuinely, and without a single officer of the RPD nearby to prove it. She reopened her large blue eyes and slid the other earmuff on. "I hear you clearly Ethan. Jesus Christ..." She paused, forgetting protocol for the moment, before continuing. "The stations in a mess, our guys are blind, deaf and dumb, we need to establish that relay link so we can better organize. Think you can do it Ethan? You said you had an idea? Over." She asked.

Her voice was clear as well, but the interference was slowly returning. They only managed to patch themselves through a tight, non-secure window, but thanks to the STARS aging radio... it would be hard for the technology to be disabled on Matsuo's end.

He smiled and was nodding, in spite of her being unable to see him. "I can do that, just give me a few minutes to set up-" he says back, shifting away from the radio and began to adjust the settings for the Campus' station... when he saw it on the monitors. He... didn't rightly know what it was... but after staring at it for a while, watching it move between monitors, realized it wasn't a hallucination. He leans over the mic. "-We'll have to hold off on that request for a bit, I got an issue to take care of. Stay on this frequency and don't move it! I'll be back soon. Over and Out." He says, writing down the station's frequency in his notepad, before switching the frequency over to the campus security line. "Report in. Report in..." he called into the radio, activating the security unit's handsets and hip mounted talkies. "Report in. Report in..." he continued, watching the creature move...

Pembrooke blinked and chuckled. "Dude... I get it, you know the lingo... I'm dying here, just... keep it real." The guard replied, letting out a groan as he pulled himself up to better sit in the seat. He lifted the radio to his mouth again and spoke again. "I'm Officer Pembroke. Where you at, 'Chris Wood'? National Guard, Student, and wannabe cop?" He asked, before trying to use the camera monitors to find him. "I'm in the Security Office. Radio's can only use local channel, trying patch out doesn't work... waiting on the RPD to help with a... with.." he coughed blood. "...a remote relay. You need to... you need to tell anyone... in the gym, to m-" he coughed again, and shook violently. "t-t-t-to MOVE....! To go to the Police St-station... okay? C-can you d-d--ooooh, uagh, do that for me? Huh? 'Chris Wood' the National Guard Cop Student Wonder?" he paused... then finished with: "Over."
