Jack Cavanaugh is expelled from the Hunter Gamma Mass Production Facility into the underground waterway beneath the University, his body slamming into walls into other debris as he is separated from Yoko Sasaki, and now being ushered into secure areas of the waterways, such as the tunnels leading to the underground water treatment facility underneath the Raccoon City University foundations. He is forced underwater, containers filled with inactive Gamma Hunters follow after him, as well as parts of the catwalk he had been standing on prior. He is forced under a gate, which is then blocked by this twisted, sharp and deadly debris before he is deposited into a sediment pool. The water is calmer, but he is now sinking into the 40 foot abyss, a wire and a Gamma pod wrapped around his right boot's ankle dragging him down...

Above him... on the surface, lies a locked gate and a panel requiring an Umbrella bracelet ID or a Red Umbrella Key Card...

Jack tumbled about the fast flowing water, helpless to the current's pull as his air dwindled and his panic rose! His eyes catching blurry images of pipes, sewer mains, flickering lights, flickering images. Images of his past.

He saw flashes of the scene, where he stupidly crawled into a noose trap as a young lad hunting with his dad. He saw the emotional torture of being alienated during school years. His regrets, not asking a certain someone out to the prom...



The sound of bubbles whirling around him as he was left at the mercy of the forceful current, his body dragging into the murky depths. He hated water... he hated the idea of drowning, but he also hated the fact he was forced to watch regrets unfold before his eyes as he was hitting walls, bounced around a track, dragged across the bottom of a filthy fucking river of muck. He then saw his most recent failure in his mind... his dad, grabbing his ankle.... asking, no, BEGGING for help!

Jack flinched as his shoulder smashed into something metal, and he tumbled into someplace calmer. Still, everything was spinning, his body felt starved of oxygen, and he suddenly felt still...



I failed everyone... ugh... well, at least Yoko is alive... I hope... He thought as he was being dragged down by his ankle, the heavy containment tank pulling him into the dark depths...

Then... he saw flashes of light in his head. He had to... keep pushing. He couldn't bite it... not yet!

"GLURG!" Jack's eyes shot open in the dark haze, his muffled cries for air, the throbbing in his head and the pressure around his ankle from the cord which continued to drag him downwards! Sh-shit, I'm gonna drown! I- I need to hurry! He thought, unsheathing his M9 Bayonet from his belt:



He doubled over choking, his vision hazy and red, as he fumbled to grab the cord twice, before grabbing it nice and taut! He then began sawing through it with the sawblade side of the bayonet/combat knife, cutting through as he grunted and choked under the mirth! I... Can't... DIE... YET!

He mentally screamed, cutting through the wire entirely! He began to spin, and now feeling the pressure leave his leg began desperately swim upward! He spread his arms, flapped them down, watching his vision go dim and black as he struggled to reach the surface...! I... can't.... not.... yet...

"PHWAAA!!!" Jack gasped, wheezed, coughed and puked up water as his long hair fell across his eyes, blinding him as he splashed about on the surface of the pool! He still had a sharp knife in his hand so he had to ignore his hair as he weakly, but forcefully waded around blindly, reaching out for something solid to give purchase to. The sound of his pained, strained voice and running water flowing around him was all he could hear. The smell... wasn't so bad, and this run off didn't seem to be waste rather than stagnant storm water. Still a nasty scent, that thick, green smell that still smelled similar to waste... okay, he was just hoping that was his current predicament. He was freezing yet, which made feeling around with numb fingers and toes and swimming with over 90 pounds of gear very... very uncomfortable. He continued to cough and gag, paddling himself somewhere in the blur of his vision- his parted bangs only gave him a modest glance of the area. He saw... stairs? A landing? He wasn't sure. He was swimming to it!

He waded over absently pushing his bangs out of his eyes with a heavily drenched left arm, ducking beneath the horrid waters before surfacing again. Now... at least able to make heads or tails of what was in front of him, with his hair slicked back, his purple lips trembling, red cracked eyes wide and his head on a swivel as he swam for the submerged staircase. He was... somewhere. He knew it was a sewer, hell, he could smell it! It was... just a matter of 'where' he was now. Still, that was stuff to worry about later. Jack finally made his way up onto a half-submerged platform, and pulled himself onto his chest, then dragged his body onto the solid slab of concrete, kneeling over and coughing hoarsely into the water beneath him.

His throat felt hoarse, his body cold and numb, and his head throbbed. He felt like shit.

When he slowly regained his composure, he slid his knife back into his sheath, and then patted himself down for his gear. His father's rifle, the AR-15 A2 was still there on his back, thankfully undamaged. He checked his drop leg, his Beretta still in place. The M629 in the new, brown leather holster under his arm? Check. Hip bag... check. All fingers, hands, legs, limbs, etc, check. Flashlight? Gone. He lost it in the white river rapid ride from hell over here...

He drew his handgun as he stood up, shivering. He had a pack of Lucky Strikes in a ziplock baggie in his jacket along with his Zippo, for the event if he fell into the Mendez River... again. He took the lighter out, playing with it for a minute...

It was like he was in a chapel dedicated to... well, shit. Waste. Runoff.

Pipes strewn above him, his breath didn't fog... so he supposed the air was warmer to a degree. He began to look for a way back to Yoko, or a way out... but wasn't so anxious to call out her name in the dark. He started to trudge through the water, making his way down the submerged corridor, the water up to his ankles. "Ugh... I hate squelching boots... better not get trench foot or worse, fuck me man... I'm gonna need a whole fuck ton of shots and no less than a hundred showers once I get the hell out of this fucking sewer. Damn it..." He grumbled, wishing he could wipe his face, but had nothing dry to do so. He continued ahead, trying to warm himself up with the minimal flame and heat of the zippo in his hand, and his handgun in the other.

He thought he could see some lights in the distance ahead of him, so he decided to check it out...

Yoko searched about with her flashlight in hand, swinging the circle of light down into the water. "Jack?!" she called out, her heart in her throat, making her sound like she was choking. "JACK?!" the woman screamed again. She felt sick, felt dread crawling into her tummy as she made her way across bridges and tried to look for the missing military nerd in a labyrinth! "JACK!!!" She screamed again, and then noticed a beam of light as she was heading past one tunnel, the blinding light made her wince, and she used her free hand to cover the rays from hurting her eyes as she turned and made her way towards it.

It was Jack's maglite, jutting from the corner of some debris slammed into what looked like a large gate or grate. She lifted it up, and then looked around for him in the water anxiously! "Jack? Are you here?! JACK! JACK!" She cried out, hoping he'd answer her! Oh God... what if he's under the water...?! What if he's... She closed her eyes, shaking her head. No... can't think like that. Not yet, we can find him! He can still be alive! She told herself, opening her eyes with fierce determination. "JAAAAAACCCK?!" She screamed at the top of her lungs!

He quickly dismissed his internal dialogue and continued his jog towards the lighted end of the tunnel.

His footfalls in the ankle deep water continued to splash, forcing himself to keep his body moving, to get the blood moving. "Yoko, over here! I'm over this way!" He called out to her, and could hear her. They were close! They were-!



...separated by a wall. "Yoko!" He called out to her, smiling as he ascended the steps to the door. There was a glowing green console to his left which he ignored as he went to the door, pushing his weight against it.

"What the...?" Jack said, startled, rattling the door. He tried it again, pushing his shoulder against it.

"It-it won't budge!" Jack shouted, kicking at the door, slamming into it again and again. In some ways, this was good, as he couldn't feel the pain due to the numbing pins and needles, he already felt. The extra actions helped him circulate his blood and warmed himself up, keeping the core temperature up. However, this did nothing else beneficial. "C'mon... open up...!" He grunted, kicking the door several more times, the thick crosswire wall and matching door rattled. He checked to see if he could simply remove the bolts... but then realized it was on some sort of track again! "I... am SO tired of these sliding fucking doors!!" He screamed, shaking it fruitlessly. "Ughh..." he sighed, bowing his head. His long reddish-brown bangs draped over his face; his shoulders slumped... fingers loosely holding onto the square gaps. "...well," he started, glancing up at her, forcing a smile. "You look pretty well." he said, folding his arms, leaning against the door on his shoulder. "All things considering." He smirked.

"Jack!" Yoko shouted, as she ran along the corridor. The metal clinking under her feet, the sounds of the waterway echoing around her with her metallic foot falls, as she could hear his... hopefully his! The splashing movement made her a little uneasy, but she chalked it up to being Jack jogging in water somewhere in the tunnel adjacent of her. She couldn't see him through any of the gaps, nor could she squeeze through them, being so small. "Jack? You still with me?!" She shouted back.

She could hear his voice! He was so close, she turned the corner- and then saw a wall obstructing them. The steel latticework was like a large mesh grate, but the gaps were large enough for her to make out the soggy wannabe soldier. She smiled, wiping her eyes. "Oh... Thank goodness! You are okay!" She half choked on her voice, trying not to cry out of elation. She really thought Jack was dead because of her actions... even so, if she didn't do anything... he would have died regardless, she supposed.

Yoko's heart sank... she looked around, and saw the glowing green light from the console to Jack's left, her immediate right. "Jack-" she began as he began banging on the door constantly. "How about-" she paused again as he slammed against it again. "Jack I think-" she closed her eyes, losing her patience as he continued to pound on the door to no avail.

"JACK!" She shouted, as he suddenly stopped... and she watched him lean against the door, sighing heavily. He looked rough, cold... tired. She probably looked about the same. She sighed as well, leaning against the wall that divided them, deciding to give him a moment to collect himself. He did just get ejected into a river of muck after all.

At this, the pretty Asian cocked a brow, a small smirk appeared as she half chuckled. "Heh," she laughed, leaning against the wall with one hand, nodding her head, leaning against the wall in a cool pose like she was a tough gal. "Well, you know. I took out a frog monster with a chair. All things considering, I think I'm a badass~" She cooed, before she reached into the gap and held his hand. It was cold, slimy, wet. "You... look like shit. Smell like it too." She stuck her tongue out at him, before caressing his hand with her thumb. "I'm just glad you are not dead." She sighed, her smile turning into a worried look.

Jack flushed pink in the face by her touch. It was warm, and he stared at her through the slots in the wall. "W-well, that does sound pretty badass. Hey now, from my perspective, everything smells like shit now." He chuckled. He gripped her hand a little tightly. "I'm glad you're safe too... but it'd be a bonus if this damn gate would open!" he groaned.

Yoko laughed with Jack and took comfort in his touch. She really did grow close to him in a short amount of time but could sense some hesitation to commit on his part yet. She then batted her lashes. "Jack..." she cooed. She then nodded to the right.

"PROXIMITY IDENTIFICATION SCAN, UMBRELLA INC. STAFF LEVEL ONE 'GUEST' PASS OR HIGHER REQUIRED TO LEAVE TREATMENT FACILITY," he repeated what he read, and saw an image of a green chip on a wrist band. There was also an optional card key slot on the side, but... other than that, nothing! "I... I don't have one of those..." he gulped.

"...I-I do... but its at my sister's house." she sighed, before glancing up at him through the square cut outs. She blinked her large, brown eyes at him. "Remember, my sister works for Umbrella... I have guest pass when I want to visit her... but I didn't bring it with me today." she frowned, bowing her head. Damn it... if I took it with me, Jack could be. She looked up, and beamed. "Not a problem! I'll just find another way over to you, and we'll... um..."

Yoko rolled her eyes. "(Oh you are seriously going to play this game with me huh?)" She smirked, and placed her hands on her hips. "Jack... its glowing. Green. You can't miss it." She said in a semi-serious tone.

Jack didn't look at her, knowing if he did then he'd probably burst out laughing. "Well then, congrats you passed." he answered her, as he began looking the panel over. His slight smile faded... and became serious. "Oh no..." He began, wiping the soot away, hoping what he was reading wasn't true.

"PROXIMITY IDENTIFICATION SCAN, UMBRELLA INC. STAFF LEVEL ONE 'GUEST' PASS OR HIGHER REQUIRED TO LEAVE TREATMENT FACILITY," he repeated what he read, and saw an image of a green chip on a wrist band. There was also an optional card key slot on the side, but... other than that, nothing! "I... I don't have one of those..." he gulped.

Jack slammed on the wall, making it echo with a clang. "You'll have to!" he shouted, trying to hold back his own nervousness. He didn't want to venture off in the labyrinth alone, not without Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie, and especially without Yoko... but it was simply too dangerous for her to try and find a way to him, and vice versa. He relaxed his fist, and lightly held the cage like slats, and bowed his head. "It's too risky to linger down here. We need to find our way back up to the surface, and you need to get to your sister, right? I still need to find my friend, Rin and get her out of here. My mission isn't complete, and I have to see it through." He then slid his hand out to her through the gaps. "Please, Yoko... I want to give you a fighting chance. A pen and that Manual." he asked again, sincerely.

She asked, not wanting to think it, but it was a possibility that either Rin or her sister could be dead or already gone. What do they do then? She didn't want to leave him behind, nor did she want to abandon him after all Jack had done for her this far. He saved her life, and she his! It was so fast, but she didn't want to leave without him...

Unzipping her bag, she took out that manual again:



She also handed him a pen, confused and curious on what he was going to do with them...

Jack took the booklet and the pen silently and didn't answer her immediately as he went to a blank page and started scribbling down notes. As brief as he could, he explained how to handle various other firearms:

Jack's Firearms Manual

Shotguns
-If the gun's grip doesn't pull back, and or if there is a 'rod' sticking out of the side of the gun, its semi-automatic
-Load shells into the slot in front of the trigger guard (not always) # of shells should be written on side, if unsure load 5. If semi-auto, pull back 'rod' jutting from side of gun once loaded to charge the weapon
-Brace stock against shoulder so you can look down the sights, don't lean your head towards the stock
-Ease the trigger, once fired, pump. If it doesn't pump, its a semi-auto, in which case don't do anything, you can keep firing till you run out.
-Aim for around the shoulders and chest

Semi-Auto Handguns
-insert handgun mag into grip
-Pull back slide to charge
-When empty, the slide will remain open (sometimes), in the event if it does lock open upon empty, insert a new magazine after ejecting the previous mag (using button on side) and then hit the lever on the frame to release the slide. You will be able to fire. In the event slide doesn't stay open, or there is no slide release lever, you will need to pull back the slide to charge the gun once you load a new magazine

Magnums
-Similar to your revolver
-Try not to jerk your wrist
-expect lots of recoil
-shoot close range

When he handed the notebook and pen back, she took a quick look and half giggled. I feel like I should have known... she thought, before her large brown gaze raised to meet him. He was giving her words of confidence, of hope. Telling her where to meet up should they need to.

Shotguns
-If the gun's grip doesn't pull back, and or if there is a 'rod' sticking out of the side of the gun, its semi-automatic
-Load shells into the slot in front of the trigger guard (not always) # of shells should be written on side, if unsure load 5. If semi-auto, pull back 'rod' jutting from side of gun once loaded to charge the weapon
-Brace stock against shoulder so you can look down the sights, don't lean your head towards the stock
-Ease the trigger, once fired, pump. If it doesn't pump, its a semi-auto, in which case don't do anything, you can keep firing till you run out.
-Aim for around the shoulders and chest

Semi-Auto Handguns
-insert handgun mag into grip
-Pull back slide to charge
-When empty, the slide will remain open (sometimes), in the event if it does lock open upon empty, insert a new magazine after ejecting the previous mag (using button on side) and then hit the lever on the frame to release the slide. You will be able to fire. In the event slide doesn't stay open, or there is no slide release lever, you will need to pull back the slide to charge the gun once you load a new magazine

When he handed the notebook and pen back, she took a quick look and half giggled. I feel like I should have known... she thought, before her large brown gaze raised to meet him. He was giving her words of confidence, of hope. Telling her where to meet up should they need to.



"The police station." she repeated, sounding almost like a question. The police station was in the opposite direction of where her sister told her to head to- which was the Umbrella R&D Facility... but now, with all this shady stuff with Umbrella...? She wasn't sure if she should. Sachi is waiting for me there... I should go anyway, to see if I can find her. I'm sure she's fine, she's my older sister! She's been through worse events than I! She thought, before blinking. "Oh, right..." Yoko paused, reaching back, yanking out Jack's flashlight. "Hey, you dropped this." she says, pushing his Maglite through the gap with her free hand, flicking it off mid way. "Its how I found you so quickly. It may be a good luck charm. Heh..." she smiled, looking away from Jack.

About sticking your neck out needlessly and not being reckless? Look, Jack, I appreciate you looking out for me, but I have more than enough bullets." she scoffs and turns around before taking a massive step away from him before he could snag her bookbag! She glanced over her shoulder, looking back at him with a flustered, annoyed expression written onto her face. "I'll be fine, if you do the same! I don't want to come across your body or find out you died out there doing something--" she held her tongue, closed her eyes and tightened her grip on her arms under her chest before letting out a frustrated sigh! "Ughh!"

Yoko turned to face him and pointed at him, while her other hand rested on her hip! "Now, if you run into trouble on your end and you can not make it to the Police Station, head to the Umbrella R&D centre! I will heed your advice if that place is not safe, and will head to the station instead! So be prepared, I may be there ahead of you, Jack!" She declared, sounding determined. She wasn't always like this, but she got this way thanks to a special friend she met in the four years she's been in Raccoon. She hoped she was safe as well, but... had no time to dwell or risk looking for her. She was sure she was safe...

Yoko closed her eyes and looked away, arms folded, cheeks flush. She half opened her eyes, which fluttered towards Jack's direction as she posed herself like this. "...w-well, I also like to thank you. For what you've done for me... (Idiot)." she sighed, closing her eyes again, forcing herself to look away from him. "...Please. Don't kill yourself out there." She half gasped and whimpered. She felt worried, given that moment in the office they had when she tried to speed things along... well, sorta. She wanted him to know she was interested, it was okay to be interested back, and he totally did as she can almost certainly feel his eyes were glued to her lovely ass right now, but he backed off. Got scared? It was weird, he shut himself down, shot her down. She couldn't explain it, but it almost felt like a vow, or he was self torturing himself to allow someone in. She couldn't be certain, and wouldn't speculate further on that note, as she herself was far from the expert on these things, having only had the one serious relationship in the four years she lived in Raccoon.

Jack took a step back with wide eyes from Yoko's response! It was equally terrifying as it was... adorable? He hadn't seen her snap yet, well, not since the stairwell which to be honest was something to snap over. Though, she made a good argument and he supposed he should follow his own lesson in this case and now thinking about it, he realized the ammo pouches didn't feel as heavy as they had been up to this point. Shit, I need to take stock and restock... he told himself, before nodding at her. "R-right then. Sorry." he nervously replied with a soft, self-depreciating chuckle.

Jack nodded, and slowly returned the magazine back to the side pack on his belt. "Yeah, you as well. If things get tough, run away. I'll try and do the same... but no guarantees!" He teased, before sighing. "Bad joke..." he sighed again, rubbing his neck and looked down... then glanced back up at her. "I won't." He said as he held the slats and leaned close to the wall. "Thank you for saving me as well, but I don't want to hear 'you're welcome' unless we meet again, in which case-" he began, peeling away from the wall, he began to head back the way he came, since the path ahead of him was barred off as well. His footfalls splashed in the water below, and he shivered at the cool water gracing his moist and soggy feet. "...in which case, I will deny you yours till then as well." Jack finished, glancing back to her with a smile.



He then turned away and waved her off. "I'll be expecting that 'welcome!' So don't go dying on me, Yoko!" He called back, and forced himself to keep pressing on, not looking back. Good luck, Yoko...

She rolled her eyes as Jack ended the conversation with that! "(You are such an idiot! Try not to do something idiotic in the meantime, idiot! I would 'welcome' that!)" Yoko forced a smile, not wanting to see him go like this but he was right. They needed to keep moving.

Yoko watched him vanish into the darkness of the tunnel, and then turned away. She flicked her light back on and removed her revolver from her holster. She had to look for a way topside and thanks to Jack, she managed to get this far. God please let me make it through this place unscathed and watch over Jack? I hope he doesn't get himself into further trouble. She sighed and continued down the tunnel ahead of her. She hadn't a clue where it lead, but she was going to look for such answers in the darkness ahead!
