September 24th, 1998

Sometime between 2 and 3 AM....

Dr. Hinako loads the S&W Model 5906 she had taken from a fallen security guard:

She was somewhat familiar with the weapon in the short time, having trained her marksmanship on some of the wandering virus carriers. She felt it was a bit heavier than she would have liked, but nonetheless, it was small and it packed more than enough rounds to kill any of the infected. She pulled back hard on the slide, somewhat straining in her effort, before the weapon was primed and ready to go. She wordlessly turned her calculating, murky blue eyes towards the door to her Lab, using her key card to gain access. With a mechanical whoosh the door slid to the side and into the wall. He heels click upon the shiny metal surface as she enters her lab. The motion activated lights lit up upon sensing her movement, the dark room which was only lit faintly by the blue and green glow of her labs computers was now practically blinding! The door closed behind her upon moving away from it, locking with a metallic 'click'. They resembled the doors somewhat from Jurassic Park, she remembered noting.

On that thought, her murky blue eyes fell upon the creature being held in the cultivation tank, suspended in an embryonic fluid of sorts. It was bigger and taller than herself, the control unit mounted at the back of its skull was plugged into a massive cable, allowing the creature to rest yet at the same time, see through the cameras within the facility, having hacked into most of them save a few of the other scientist's laboratories stationed throughout the complex. She brought her free hand up to the glass upon approach, touching the smooth exterior of the tank as she stared up at her literal 'pet project'. "Good Morning Blue, are you able?" she asked, the labs coms should have been active, allowing her 'contact' with her creation within the tank...

As the woman had approached the glass, a camera on the wall behind her had slowly followed her movement as she walked up to the glass. It's telescopic lens had slowly moved forward upon her speaking to the creature within the fluid, alerting the Doctor that she was being watched.

The contained beast stirred slighting within the fluid, its eyelids slowly opening, a foggy film momentarily protecting its eyeballs before the second lid slid away... revealing large, calculating, reptilian gold eyes. The eyes glared down towards the Doctor, the implanted bio-organic computer highlighted her in his 'heads up display', marking her as a 'friendly' a 'do not threaten' code which reminded him that she was a 'care giver' and not an option for self-sustainment or enemy.

The beast blinked twice, as the screen on her PDA relayed its answer.

'Operational, Care Giver. Deactivating Rest Mode?' The text to speech mode on her device was deactivated however it seemed. The creature, whom the woman named 'Blue' waited for a response and further instruction.

The woman half turned her head, looking over her shoulder at the camera's mechanical movements. He's awake. She thought, before turning her head back to face the now, fully aware Hunter Specimen. She pulled out the PDA from her pocket, having turned off Blue's 'voice box' so to speak, while she scavenged the B3 Area of the Umbrella Facility, as to not alert other infected crawling about. She apparently missed the 'memo' about the sewer system leak, and missed her chance at evacuating due to the proximity of her laboratory and the tram station on B3 which lead to the Underground Terminal, which was openly connected to the sewers. Many of Umbrella's labs were in this manner, so they could connect with the central hub which was dubbed the 'HIVE' due to its interconnecting passages to other main facilities and private laboratories. Only a handful of employees were given a heads up on the outbreak, she wasn't one of them... however, the Scientist Herbert Lindt was. She found the message on his PDA from one of the corporation's security officers under the name of Ace of Spades warning him of the outbreak. Unfortunately, Dr. Lindt was way past his expiration date when she found him, half eaten by one of the infected USS officers who had somehow shambled from the sewers into the B3 Level. Several other Security personnel were called to the scene, including one of the Chief Security Officers, who, was, the one she retrieved this pistol from. Granted... he was begging for its return when she left and locked him in one of the labs with the other infected who were on top of him. She found more clips for the weapon in one of the security checkpoints.

She blinked at the text and then activated the speech function, since she was in a safe zone for the most part. "But to answer your question, 'yes', I'm going to be releasing you from your containment. Blue's eyes followed Hinako's movement with calm eyes, seemingly observing and studying her behavior. The small speaker on her PDA crackled now that the feature was activated. A robotic male voice answered her: "Apologies. Big Sis-Care Giver." it had replied, intelligently, almost with dry humor... the creature continued to follow Hinako with his own eyes till she was out of his physical sight, before he switched over to the Camera View. Her well rounded butt was seen in view, the camera lens retracting to get a fuller picture of the Doctor. Blue 'listened' to his caregiver's words, before asking: "End of Training? Live Combat? BETA Can Perform In New Environment." He replied. "Your Survival Is Listed As Priority. Acknowledged." he added as the sequence was being uploaded into the internal computer.

Hinako rolled her eyes at the wiseass remark... when she paused for such a remark was... new. It was almost human. She turned to face the creature for a moment before her eyes darted back to the monitor, her right hand parting back strands of her angled bangs as he replied. "Yes. My survival is a priority, but your survival is also equally essential Blue. We need to survive... and escape this city." she says in a low, determined tone that was almost cold...

Blue's body function was returned, and the tank was at a steady rate draining of fluid. The connected umbilical cords and other various tubes were automatically releasing from Blue's ports, bubbles forming at the surface of the giant glass cylinder as it was steadily draining downward...

Hinako noticed a flash of movement on one of the security monitors, no doubt Blue did as well, since he could see the security feed like the Hunter Sweepers. There was a bleeding, injured man in the hall outside her Lab. Blood was gushing down his leg, his dark uniform was reminiscent of the Facility's Security, but the man wasn't body armor equipped at all. In fact, he seemed to be clutching his thigh, dragging the injured leg with one hand as a 9mm handgun with a retracted slide was in his other hand. He was frightened and blindly trying doors on the level, his bloody hand leaving stains as he tried to access every door he passed. "Hmm... seems like that man's been through hell." she says out loud. In an odd twist considering what she's done this far to survive this initial onslaught, she deactivated the locks of her lab; granting him entry when he got close to it.

On the screen, the security officer's torn armor and clothes were crimson with blood and wounds on his left thigh and shoulder were not indicative of infected, but looked like shrapnel and blast wounds. He continued to drag his injured leg, even as he continually turned and fired his Glock 18C-001 in bursts of automatic fire.

Blood ran in rivulets down from his hairline onto his face, making him continually wipe it away with the tattered remains of a sleeve. "I can't believe we had three simultaneous betrayals!" he whispered hoarsely.

The beast within the containment pod flexed his fingers, his reptilian toes, and slowly swished its tail as body function quickly returned. "We. Survive?" He asked. "Our. Survival?" He added. His eyes blinked as he notices her alarm, and then patches in to the camera feed, spotting the dark armored figure approaching the lab, and could hear the bullets firing from his machine pistol. "Umbrella Security Staff Recognized. Captain Mark Alexanderson. Age: 38. Height: Six Foot Four Inches. Commended By The Corporation For Survival And Wetwork. Several Corporate Achievements. Highly Decorated. Was Transferred To Raccoon City Under Orders By Umbrella Officer Vincent Goldman Of Sheena Island, And Is An Active Member Of Sheena Island Security Training Staff. His Mission: Classified. Injuries Sustained Appear Severe..." he reported, as his containment was now empty of fluid.

The glass hatch shifted slightly, before twisting open. Hot air bellowed out of the containment, and the creature, 'Blue' slowly lumbered out of its containment. Standing at 9'4, he towered his Caregiver by another full human's height! His tail unfurled, and swung about listlessly, his bulky blue body and scales dripping with containment fluid...

"Yes. Our survival." She replied. She continued to observe the man identified as Captain Mark Alexanderson. "Commander Goldman from Sheena Island...? So he's not native security..." She spoke under her breath, the rapid fire from his Glock echoing down the corridor. "Hmm. So he survived the sewers, Birkin's transformation and exposure to the Virus...? Impressive..." She cooed, when she hears the dull, heavy thumps of Blue's feet upon the surface of the lab. She turned to face her creation, and smirked. "Still, not as impressive as you, Big Blue..." She hummed contentedly.

Mark slid along the wall, laying down more suppression fire, before he threw a smoke grenade back the way he came.

"Fucking Marcus, fucking Birkin, fucking Ferral!" he growled out.

'Damn it all! Nobody was alerted to the test beforehand! Then those three shit the bed and go haywire! Now Marcus is dead, Birkin is devolving into some kinda freak, and nobody knows what Ferral's done, locked himself in with 'Subject 0', and two no shit Godzillas right out of some horror dinosaur flick. If he releases those things we're finished. There'd be nothing to stop that monster from breaking the quarantine walls. The military would have no choice but to alter xx into a full nuclear strike to kill it!' thought Mark as he came before the industrial doors to Dr.Hinako's labs.

'Please tell me not all of the science team has turned into lunatics... I can't handle yet another Hojo impersonator.'

The large blue reptilian turned its head to Hinako, observing her affection, before there was movement to the left, his head snapping over to the door which now slid open. The bleeding Captain Mark was a few feet in front of them, with Hinako between Mark and himself. Blue watched the injured U.S.S. operative closely...

Funny enough, unbeknownst to Mark, Dr. Sasuke Hojo was her predecessor in the Umbrella Japan Facilities. A sort of 'mentor', he got her into the field when she was 18. Hinako turned to the man as he appeared, and raised an arm slowly up with open palms. "Easy there, lets not be rash." She says in a calm, clear voice. "You look like you've seen hell and back. Enter quickly, we don't want the others inside." She says, her eyes observing him just as carefully as Blue.

Failing to bring up the big creature who stoically stood taller than both humans, and patiently behind her.

Mark stumbled through the door, but his arm almost immediately started to raise the pistol at the huge hunter. "You activated yours too?!" he asked. "..... *COUGH* Oh no, Dr. Hinako... If you've activated yours - that means Dr.Ferral may have done the same. He's been locked in his lab with that Tiamat Dinosaur and Subject 0 since this morning." The fear in his voice as he looked into 'Blue's' eyes was apparent, he saw something in the creature he had seen earlier today, in both Birkin's unstable transformation.... and in those gargantuan monsters in Ferral's lab.

Mark then remembered something. "I take it his control chip works?"

She observed him, his blood loss and anxiety was wearing the veteran operative down. She raised a brow at his remark. "Tiamat... Subject Zero? Hmm... Not sure I catch your meaning soldier, I've only recently transferred here if you recall. However, Dr. Ferral had stopped by earlier yesterday to observe my pet project here..." She explained, reaching back, touching Blue's scaly abdomen tenderly. "As you can see, the chip does indeed work. Just like the Hunter Kai's and Sweepers. Same technology, albeit modified by yours truly. Dr. Hojo had taught me well." She says with a bit of haughtiness to her voice. She then turned around, walking past Blue, and back to her station. "How is the situation out there?" She asked calmly, Mark's injuries reminding her to pack something for first aid in case she got hurt.

"Birkin has injected himself with G, killed the squad that he was assigned., Marcus' legacy hit us hard as well, infected are pouring in from the sewers, several of the specimens have escaped in the panic as a result, including the gen 2 series hunters, and gammas. Along with them the second group of Neptunes got flushed into the lake. Then there's the Gravediggers and that damn Alligator... we've also been getting reports of several of the zoo animals also succumbing to the T-infection, including several lions, an elephant, and two large brown bears. Finally, as I said, Ferral sealed himself in his own lab this morning.... What he has in thare, I can barely describe.... Giant dinosaurian monsters that would give any Godzilla fan the chills... Tiamat is the codename for a giant mutated Plesiosaur... And the other...

He slowly brought out his phone, where he had snapped a picture of the creature that was once Edward Holden.

The creature observed the man with caution, its scaly lips peeled back to show its long, back facing teeth as it snarled... almost eerily like those raptors in that aforementioned movie. It eyed him with his large, golden reptilian gaze, as its programming prevented him from outright attacking the bleeding, possible threat.

Hinako glances over the photo as the injured soldier debriefs her of the outside chaos, the monsters under Ferral's thumb, and the situation as a whole with Umbrella. "Hmm... Seems the Company seriously has some security issues..." She says with a shrug.

As soon as the soldier's radio went off, she glanced up at him. "You gonna get that? He sounds desperate." She says in a cool tone. Turning around, she decided that the guard would likely get in her way. Monitoring Blue's nutritional readout on her PDA suggested he would need to feed, so she unlocked his impulse and marked the USS soldier as the target- as feed.

Ben Nakano: "Jesus, glad someone is down there still alive! No one, Sir. Weren't you here with us? Wait, your radio sounds fuzzy, where are you broadcasting from RAVEN?"

RAVEN: "This is RAVEN, I'm currently on mission. All surviving Umbrella Personnel are to fall back to safe zones, or failing that, report to your nearest Mobile Operations Center. Now I repeat, what is your location and status? Over."

Ben Nakano: "Wait... you're not- I mean, this thing has gone viral?! "Negative on that... I'm kinda stuck here in the facility. I'm in the Research and Development Center in the St. Michael District, Umbrella's Head Office. I'm loaded to the teeth but, my access band is malfunctioning, I can't get out of basement two without the proper clearance chip, and I can't find any of the surviving staff to get the hell out of this place, over."

RAVEN: "Indeed. Raccoon City has entered Stage 1 Quarantine as we speak. If your electronic access has been damaged or compromised, then why have you not used emergency exit procedures? Manual hatch access is still available according to the readouts, and access shafts remain clear."

Mike took his Radio in his left hand, his back to the wall, and he could feel his strength leave him rapidly now. he knew he wasn't going to make it no matter what he did.

"This is USS member Sierra Charlie Echo 226, Mike here.... I'm in the R&D Center with Dr Hinako and her.... Bodyguard. But we're pinned down in here. The infected are too numerous. I've been infected and fatally wounded. I'm going to execute code Omega 66 on myself after this transmission to prevent endangering the doctor, but someone needs to come and get her out of here... Over."

Something... clicked inside BETA. He turned his attention to the USS operative... and began to salivate...

Blood dribbled down the wall behind Mike as he was lifted upwards, the monster's other hand gripping the man's left hand and snapped it with his inhuman strength! It let out a raptor like roar straight from Jurassic Park into his face! Spittle flecking his pale features and rolling down his neck and chin, giving him a view down his gaping throat!

Hinako turned to face the man with no expression on her face. "No, that will not be necessary. I'm sure I'll find a way out of here. Fortunately you do not have to waist any ammunition. Blue here will leave little trace of you as you perish." she says, before returning to clearing out her desk, and grabbing other things necessary when she got out of here.

The dying man didn't even have enough strength to grunt or cry out from the pain, he merely gurgled as blood seeped from his mouth as the claws had ruptured his lungs. He would choke to death on his own blood in moments. He dropped his weapons and equipment as the claws had torn his fasteners free, and his radio was crushed into silence before any reply could be received. Didn't matter, he was dead either way, willingly or not, and his bloodshot right ete, and the sickening blood stained eeth showing of his last smirk towards the doctor and her pet beast.

BETA twisted, pulling the man's ruptured skull off his shoulders and devoured him. Shrieks of hunger growling out of the beast as it engorged itself on his meal. Tearing sinew and flesh, clothing tearing and ripping under his jaws, his claws aiding him. If he was smaller shoulder wise, he'd have eaten him in larger chunks or potentially even whole- but it was not Mike's fate. The sounds of tearing and chewing grew, working the man's torso into his massive jaws, tearing out chunks of flesh and bone like pulled pork. Blood splattering the walls and floor, spreading beyond his clawed feet, and swaying tail.

Hinako ignored Blue's chewing for the most part. "Blue, chew with your mouth closed, you're making mommy's headache worse." She half joked, mostly to herself as she continued to pack up shop. She had to get her files out of the city, along with her, of course, and into Umbrella's hands. There was that RAVEN guy Mike was talking with, he seemed like a good lead, and that other security Guard, Ben? He was a good start. She had to get to the basement section above her, which would be no problem with her skills and Blue's strength. She was curious though about the man's words, about Patient Zero. She shrugged it off for now, as much as she would like to view Ferral's research, no one really knew where his lab was located; and she wasn't going to go through both the HIVE and NEST to get to his access tunnel to find out. Not in this chaos.

"Okay, that should be enough then..." She says at last, taking her thumbdrive, stashing it away with her floppy disc, turning to Blue who now had a pair of legs sticking from his massive jaws. Blood covered the wall, ceiling, floor... his blue scales bathed in slimy crimson. She shook her head side to side, and walked up to his gear, and began to strip it. She didn't need the gun, but took the bullets from the magazines and set them into her pockets. "Okay, time to find a security guard..." She says, patting Blue's scales before exiting the room. "Hurry along, Blue..." She says without turning to the monster, her hands in her lab coat as she exited into the hall.
