Background & Other Details:

The standard issue rifle of the United States Armed forces, from its main branches of the US Army, Marines, Air Force and Navy to the National Guard and Coast Guard, replacing the M16A1 in the 1980s. It's also been in use for Law Enforcement agencies such as SWAT and Arklay County Sheriff's Department. Though, Militarily, it is in the process of being phased out for the M16A4 and M4A1 rifles currently in use by US Special Forces, the A2 Series is still in mass circulation by the aforementioned US Army, National Guard and Coast Guard Services to name a few. It is known for its high accuracy in single-shot and its high modularity and customizable frame, able to equip a number of specialized M203 40mm Grenade Launchers, bayonets, scopes, laser pointers, flashlights, magazines, and stocks. Its magazines are NATO standard, and load 30 5.56x45mm rounds standard.

This variant is Staff Sergeant Able J. Masterson's issued weapon as he lead members of the 75th Army Rangers in Raccoon City's outskirts during Operation Perseus, with his small squad of six that went by the callsign Ground Patrol 08. During an interaction with drifting motorist, Isabella Knight, Sgt. Masterson and his men became overwhelmed and destroyed by zombies at the TexaGo Gas station in the North East outskirts of Raccoon City. His rifle, along with many of Ground Patrol 08's supplies were left behind in the station (tentatively).

Able's rifle is equipped to handle a multi-use role, befitting the Staff Sergeant himself. The weapon is still in its full sized configuration, the longer barrel and heavier frame absorbing more recoil in automatic fire and capable of handling the recoil of the undermount grenade launcher chambered in 40mm. The weapon can also be used to snipe in semi-automatic mode, allowing one greater control of the recoil and making use of the AR's superior accuracy. The side mounted high powered flashlight also enables users to see in poorly lit areas, as well as blind combatants and sight predators with its blinding light.
