Not a duel, just a practice scene
The immense makeshift truck roared as Edgar hit the throttle full force, the smoke stacks billowing out a cloud of smoke as it growled, picking up speed quickly, heading straight for the immense concrete and steel bollards that made up the quarantine wall.
Hitting the triggers built into the steering wheel, Ed launched a salvo of 6 HEAT rockets from the front fenders of the Peterbilt 359 EXHD Tractor Truck Cab. The explosive weapons fractured and cracked the wall enough that Edward hoped the truck's speed, velocity, and armored front scoop would be enough. "Brace yourselves!" he shouted out to the others as he put his foot down hard on the throttle, slamming the wedge scoop into the weakened wall enough to bust through with a huge bang that sent concrete debris flying in every direction. The modified tanker trailer amazingly remained hitched on.
Finally, they were free of the nightmare of Raccoon City, and the Arklay quarantine zone. However, after rolling for a few more moments, Edgar slowed the immense modified and rigged vehicle he created to a halt. When Damien, Jack and Catherine turned to him in question, he remained silent for a few moments. before he turned to them as well, and with a wry smile, he answered their unspoken question.
"I cannot leave" he said.
He immediately heard their very adamant insistance that he does exactly that, but he stalls them. "You all must continue without me this time. I have to go back. There is one thing I must do, and there will be no more time for a return trip. They'll be dropping thermobaric bombs to wipe out Raccoon City, but... Raccoon Nuclear is still active. If those bombs detonate while the nuclear reactor is still active, you all know what will happen. And since I am the only one who knows how to shut the core down safely before those bombs fall, and I am the only one who can get there on foot from here in time, it has to be me."
Jack was the first to pipe up again even as Ed slid out of the drivers seat and down to the grass. "Who cares if the plant goes up? It'll nuke Raccoon City, sure, but they were planning to turn the city into a glass floor anyway."
"A detonating core of a nuclear power plant is not the same as a nuclear bomb, Jack. A bomb releases it's energy all at once, the radiation does not last all that long. And most nukes are only in the low to mid kiloton blast yield range. But if those thermobaric bombs detonate and blow the reactors in the plant, not only could it trigger a blast yield in the megaton range due to the amount of fission material involved, but the nuclear half life decay rate is many hundreds of times longer. It'll pollute the area for decades, even centuries. And it'll create a radiation smoke cloud that'll cover a huge swath of the United States and Canada for nearly as long. It'll be the worst nuclear disaster in history. No... This is the only way."
He then turned back towards the others, looking up at them in the truck cab. "You get a rare gift right now. All of you. Normally those who live, never get to leave the battlefield. But today, you get the rare chance to leave the battlefield alive, and have a chance to build something new. This is my battlefield. And I have been it's gatekeeper a very long time now." With that said, he unhooked his swords from his body, taking off his gun holsters, his bandoliers and his satchel pack and backpack as well, before handing them all to Damian. "These belong to you all now. I will no longer need them at the end of this, may as well give them to people who can make good use of them, and I have found no others more worthy."
With a nod, Ed finished his words. "Go now. Go... And don't look back."
When those words were spoken, everyone remained silent as they looked at the tall man who did everything he could to save them, Despite his strange powers, and sometimes scary demeanor, not to mention the now destroyed control mechanism Ferral used to turn him into an eldrich horror of a monster. Despite all that, they all believed, they KNEW he was walking, willingly, to his grave, to try and save them yet again. Damian had no words, tight as his throat was, and so, he closed the door, revved the engine, and started rolling again.
Ed turned back towards the destroyed quarantine wall, and stepped back beyond the threshold, back into hell again.
