Deeper forest region

RAVEN landed deeper within the forest regions of the Arklay area, he was perched upon a tall sturdy tree overlooking the forest canopies, searching for signs of Irving's MOC, or the gunfire the weapons dealer had ordered upon something he had referred to flea ridden. RAVEN had a hunch that what Irving was dealing with were infected canines, something that the higher up eggheads in the labs had designated as Cerberus - infected Doberman dogs formerly of the RCPD K9 Unit.

He rechecked the ammunition on his weapons, and the energy charge on his suit, swords and rail gun. They were still fresh and ready to go despite the moderate use back at the Sheriff station.

Knowing that there was no fooling a dog's nose, even those of the infected ones, RAVEN deactivated his Thermoptical Stealth Camouflage, he descended tot he forest floor, and kept moving.

The sound of gunfire was closer, and he would soon see the white hazmat clad members of an Umbrella Researcher unit. Their gear wasn't as high spec'd as the USS, but they were good for clean up and were just a hair beneath the quality of a proper USS operative's loadout:


Though... there were a few guys simply standing... being ignored by the pack of dogs that had escaped the nearby, torn apart cages. "A few glitches in their system, MY ASS! More like TRAGIC FLAW!" Screamed one of the suited men, standing upon the tipped over remains of the Umbrella Mobile Operations Center (M.O.C). His suit slick with dew as he slipped on the black surface of the MOC:



The cab was gone, and the few other men in white who WERE shooting at the infected dogs, were climbing trees or being torn apart by the pack! "Mangy mutts!" Irving exclaimed, still clinging to the MOC's roof. "God damn faulty products... Can you guys... HELP?!" The violent sound of one of RAVEN's handcannons tore through the air, as one of the infected dog's heads exploded in a shower of gore, and a flash of fire. This was folowed by a healthy spray of 5.7×28mm rounds from the modified FN P90 that showered the rest of the pack in deadly firepower.

While a good portion of the vicious mindless mutants were torn apart by the sudden incoming firepower, others turned to the sorce and took off sprinting at the new hostile target. Raven was as calm as ever as he holstered his guns, before drawing both swords, and becoming a hurricane of slashing blades that eviscerated each dog as it approached.

When he was done, armor saturated in blood, and giblets of the war hounds, he looked over at the survivors, and the overturned MOC.

"I am Monitor 27. Codename: RAVEN. Irving, I'll get to you in just a moment, but first... Which of you jackasses is in charge here?! And why is half your team getting mangled while the other half watches?!" Raven's voice growled out from his suit's vocalizer.

Irving, lowering his machine pistol, sighed with relief. "Finally, someone who can actually do something useful." He slid down the side of the tilted MOC, boots hitting the ground. He was wearing the same hazmat as everyone else, perfectly camouflaged for the antarctic... except they were in a woodland mountain town. He noticed Raven approaching one of the 'new guys' and he began to stutter. "W-w-wait, RAVEN, hold a sec-" he says tripping on a carcass of a MA-39 as he made his way over.

The man closest to Raven did not flinch nor respond. He stared blankly at Raven, his face obscured by his orange face shield. He and the five behind him still stood at attention, and didn't seem to be threatened by RAVEN, nor react to his carnage. They were like... mannequins.

"Raven, buddy... Glad you made it. Phew." Irving said, now at Raven's side. He looked between him and the silent freakshow. "That jackass is me. Everything was running smoothly, before the trailer got disconnected. The MA-39's we were carrying for research purposes got loose, as well as one of our infected bears. But you're probably more interested in these uninteresting fellows. Meet the members of project Sweeper, the founding corps of Unit Undertaker." he says, walking up to the silent member, patting its shoulder. "They're something that Director Goldman of Sheena Island commissioned, to help better the USS... but as you can see," he yanks off the helmet of the silent man... revealing his horrifying face:



The man was a corpse. His eyes were alight however, free of cataracts, but his veins were visible, black... blue... twisted. "-they have some kinks yet."

"The company thinks they'll be more efficient than human operatives given they won't get infected in the field... and though they have an obvious flaw, they are expected to be instated to field use by next month. Higher ups wanted me to give them a field test given... Raccoon's current situation." He explained. The corpse continued to stare at RAVEN... his eyelids blinking in a slow, unnerving manner, with the left eyelid slightly slower than the other...

RAVEN's faceplate turned transparent, and Irving could see the look of impending rage and... something else on the grizzled veteran's face.

In RAVEN's mind however, he instantly saw the makings of an old enemy from the past. Instantly, his memories dredged up old battles long since fought, won and lost. And an old enemy, one created by a long dead paramilitary group called XOF, whom also used seemingly reanimated dead.



"SKULLS!" RAVEN roared out! His hand immediately whipping out his explosive shot handcannon and aimed it directly at the deadman's forehead, hammer already cocked back.



His minds eye did not see the dead man before him, but rather the ghost of an enemy long dead. he started to squeeze the trigger.

"Woah woah woah, easy- EASY!" Irving exclaimed, pushing up the man's arm. "Hold on partner, they're company material-!" he continued as he struggled with the man's arm.

"Have... I con-concluded my... m-mission?"

The voice was hollow... unnervingly innocent. Both men turned to the corpse. "...yeah, they talk too. They're smart, but... still slug brains." He explained as he tried to wrestle the weapon from Raven's arm. "They're clones of some of the USS personnel in the UK Head Quarters, lobotomized and infected with the T-Virus. Not my cup nor choice of tea either, but they're essentially expendable robots! They follow a USS Overseer's orders, carry said orders out, and then we terminate them. You know how the Company is, contrived answers for simple questions!" He explained.

His face grimmed considerably as he stared into the face of the dead cloned man before him. "They infected the Vocal Chord parasites with Tyrant? What are they trying to do, kill us all?"

He then shook his head, and used his strength boosters before he lifted the MOC trailer, tipping it back onto it's wheels with a grunt and a heave. "If they obey commands of Overseers, then they should obey the Monitors who command them. Still, I don't like the thought of trying to command zombie brained dead men in the field... There's something only human ingenuity can do on the battlefield that mindless drones can't."

He then shook his head, and used his strength boosters before he lifted the MOC trailer, tipping it back onto it's wheels with a grunt and a heave. "If they obey commands of Overseers, then they should obey the Monitors who command them. Still, I don't like the thought of trying to command zombie brained dead men in the field... There's something only human ingenuity can do on the battlefield that mindless drones can't."

"You'll have to excuse their... lack of ambition, gentilhomme." A cool, french accent explained from behind them. The woman approaching them was in advanced USS gear, similar to RAVEN, but different. As she got closer, her skull like faceplate slid open, and revealed the beautiful woman within. Her eyes dark with eyeshadow, her reddish brown hair short and in a side part bob. Her large brown eyes glanced them over. "Monitor 12. Codename: DROWN. I was redirected to assist Monsieur Irving by Director Goldman's orders. He really wants to impress the old man, so please... try not to shoot his promotion in the face, Monsieur RAVEN?" She says cocking her head to the side slightly, smirking. "Granted, Director Goldman did exactly that method to his previous superior... and achieved a similar result. Ha ha ha~" She giggled as she revolved around the raven, her left hand gently dragging across the contours of his muscle suit.

"Hmhmhm...that suit is not just for show I see..." She licked her lips... in lewd and inappropriate manner. She then glanced up into his visor. "I can provide some of the answers, Monsieur RAVEN..." She cooed, the shorter woman who now slapped his chest plate with a quick double tap. "R&D tells me that they are cloned humans made of samples of USS DNA obtained in our yearly physicals, et cetera, et cetera. They are as you say, 'zombies' trained with firearms and USS tactics. You said funny word... Skulls... heh." She paused, and pulled up her PDA, walking away from RAVEN... but put emphasis on her sashaying hips, her well rounded derriere swaying side to side as she walked and ran through the PDA's contents. "They are... 'inspired' by the SKULL Parasite unit of XOF, encountered by agents RAVEN and SHADOWFOX... well, the old one at least." She began, referring to the former XOF and USS soldier Dai Ling, who was replaced by his daughter, Jade.

"...as for the vocal chord parasite being involved... Non." She says, turning to him with a smirk. "They are... completely harmless to us. As for it not responding? I'd have to put it on a command error. They are still very new products, glitches are to be assumed. Their protocols probably got confused and twisted around. This is why a human, USS operative is to be in charge of them, not a researcher with a firearm fetish." She says turning to Irving. "According to the report, you were supposed to be establishing a LZ at the Research Center in Raccoon. You are off the ideal route specified by the Company... they are not pleased with your lapse of judgment, Monsieur Irving..." She says with a cold, icy tone. "Under Director Goldman's orders...I shall be taking over the Undertaker Unit. You are to fall back to your default operations Monsieur Irving- to maintain operational gear for us Security Service Personnel."

"Jesus ya say that like its a bad thing!" Irving scoffed at her jab at his art. "If you want to take these lobotomized monkeys more power to ya sweetheart, its less stress off me." He explained, before suddenly the three got a simultaneous call from Sheena Island Branch Director Vincent Goldman, as evident by the young prick's voice, and the Holographic image soon displayed:



"Ah, good to see you rendezvoused with RAVEN and Mr. Irving, DROWN. I haven't the opportunity to meet either of you gentlemen, but it is a pleasure nonetheless." The Director cordially greeted RAVEN and Irving. "As to your surprise, RAVEN... the destruction of Raccoon City is delayed. The 'old man' in Europe believes we may be able to salvage Raccoon... your job is to only contain it, keep it from spreading beyond the city. The United States Military will... decide the city's fate when they come to an agreement; killing one's own people is a dodgy topic after all, there will be no doubt some clandestine squabbling in the Pentagon over it. As you may know from Raymond Taylor the one in charge of the Raccoon City Containment Operation, the outbreak was an accident due to Ashford's Unit and my Unit... butting heads in the sewers. I ask, if you find any evidence of my team, alert me via DROWN. I need to salvage what I can from this blunder..." The man sighed. He was barely 30, and he was the head of the Sheena Island research facility in the UK.

Irving chuckled. "Well, I can see why. Ashford's a bit on the eccentric side, but his team have perfected the Nemesis parasite in Paris and they also have the Legendary Hunk to boot. Hard to beat tha-"

"-SILENCE!" Goldman screamed, his face going from neutral to rage ridden in a split second... before the man coughed into his fist and adjusted his uniform. "Yes... it is unfortunate, but my rival has...an upper hand so far. Even so, anything that can benefit ourselves from this situation the better. The 'Old Man' said we are allowed to conduct any number of experiments during this time. He also says that Colonel Sergei Vladimir's Merc squad will be sent in to evacuate Umbrella Personnel and high valued civilians, so I am pleased to announce that members of the Umbrella Security Service can instead focus on damage control and cover up protocol procedures."

"Colonel Vladimir? That GRU relic? Jesus... now we have to deal with his Soviet Gangbanger misfits too? Babysitting job man, I swear..." Irving sighed.  

"Just follow your orders. Irving, you will be responsible for maintenance of USS gear, and munitions. I hear your Command Center was compromised... a suggestion, head to the Umbrella Research Facility with RAVEN, clear the building and reestablish a LZ and Head Quarters there for our Umbrella Staff to act as a Hub of sorts. From there, Umbrella staff should be able to gather in one place safely and await pick up by Vladimir's UBCS units, as well as maintain contact with Umbrella Europe. Are all your orders clear?" The young man asked.

RAVEN had a sneaking suspicion that Goldman's orders meant more than even he intended. He grimaced behind the face plate, He knew of the now Colonel Sergei Vladmir. A member of the GRU, he served and was fiercely loyal to Colonel Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin, the man most directly responsible for Operation Snake Eater. That alone earned him RAVEN's scorn. But it also made him very suspicious of Goldman's true intentions. Any remnant of Volgin's regime was not to be trusted, and everyone on Umbrella knew that, especially Spencer and the other executive directors. Volgin's strict adherence to the more sadistic practices of the Stalinists was well known, and having someone like that in power again was an intollerable outcome for most people of the world.

Still, it wasn't like RAVEN had other options at this point, but he did raise one question.

"You are delaying the airstrike? Hmph, suit yourself Goldman.You've already put all your eggs in one basket with this place - But just remember one thing; the longer we delay sanitation of Raccoon City, the more time that the enemy has to expose Umbrella, and uncover all the little secrets you've all hidden in this quaint little town. Neither outcome would please the Old Man, nor the Senior Executives. We all have too much to lose, thanks to everyone pouring all their resources, and research into the next 72 hours. I hope you all think it's worth the risk."

With those words, RAVEN walked away, and entered the recently righted MOC and started to salvage what equipment he could that may prove useful at setting up a field HQ. He'd also need to redirect his own MOC from the railyard to the Research Facility to begin setting up operations.

Goldman raised a brow. "The delay isn't my order... that would be uncouth of me. No... this comes from the Old man, Lord Spencer himself. He wishes for Umbrella to salvage what we can and make use of what we can. Though Colonel Vladimir runs the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.), he will be patching through your communication devices once Spencer gives him the go ahead to fly in. I assume he will not be present in the city, but likely a LZ outside the restriction zones. Its your job as Umbrella Security Service personnel to ensure that Umbrella's secrets don't reach our enemies. Find anything that can become a risk, and do what you must to keep the company's secret's...secret." He explained.

"Speaking of which, where is your partner RAVEN? The new SHADOWFOX I am debriefed is your former partner and rival's daughter... where is she currently?" Vincent asked, his smile... uncomfortable to look at.



Those who knew about Jade Ling's father, Dai, knew he was formerly XOF, and the pair had some bad blood prior to signing on to the company. The pair however became rivals, then close allies that some of the USS considered RAVEN and the SHADOWFOX combo frighteningly effective. Just... too bad what happened to Dai... they never did find his body....

DROWN interjected quickly, to keep the competitive infighting from truly building. "No disrespect, Director Goldman, but you do have a log you can read monitoring our movements." She began, looking from RAVEN to the hologram again. "She was out to secure Town Hall and collect the Mayor and his family. I knew that before I even arrived." She says hand on her hip, lidded eyes focused towards RAVEN.

RAVEN turned at Goldman's assertation, and his face, still visible through the currently translucent facelate, took on a cold, stern expression. RAVEN didn't believe a word of what Goldman just said. He already knew that the point of Code XX was to destroy the evidence. It was put in place when Marcus' plot disrupted the great experiment. Lord Spencer wanted to quash the Raccoon experiment and relocate the project immediately, but the constant plots of the others dragging their heels forced the experimental triggers to activate. Now he had to contain the mess long enough for the bombs to fall. Goldman's statement ran contrary to what he had already been briefed.

Thats why, with the coldness he was well known for, RAVEN replied with "I don't believe you."

With those words, his faceplate returned to it's solid, non transculent state, and he resumed his mission.

"My partner is currently engaged in her part of the mission - rounding up the Mayor, Raymond, and the Chief of Police for extraction." he answered.

Goldman smiled. "That is the benefit of a man of my position, RAVEN. You don't have to believe me, but you are going to do as you're told like a proper little soldier anyway... Dear God, I sound like 'Sir' Alfred there. Sorry. Regardless of your trust, trust me in saying we are not going to immediately immolate an American city without every angle covered. As such, we are to take no chances, delete and destroy anything damnable as per procedure while we figure out how to handle the cleansing situation while also making use of the petri dish given to us by this... unfortunate benefaction." He reiterated.

"Ah, an echo. Get in touch with her once you've cleared out the Research Facility. DROWN you can choose to assist or depart freely. I'd have uploaded the data to SHADOWFOX herself but quite honestly can't be bothered so I'll be uploading her assignment momentarily via your PDA, RAVEN. Since that stint with your wife, the company has been rather hesitant with you. Prove that you are still a key player and you will not be treated like you have been. But, back to task, your partner is to infiltrate the RPD and observe the survivors gathered there following the execution or failure of her previous mission objectives. Goblin 7 was one of the Umbrella Security Service Operatives who were sent to aid Irving to move the experimental Trisquads and the relief gear, weapons, food, supplies etc to the Umbrella R&D building to set up an on site LZ. In other words... babysitting.

"Ugh..." she groaned, loosely holding her RPK as she followed the supply train with two other operatives in black like her. The ghoulish, freaky Trisquads were shambling along with them, nervously chittering and making noises like a paranoid schizo would... Damn it, I'm stuck babysitting these freaks when I should be looking for that Dr. Ferral guy the Captain was talking about! The company wants his experiments transported before the Military or FBI send in their goons to snoop around. It just ain't fair man, just ain't fair I'm stuck babysitting these creeps... She thought heavily then sighed. "Man... this fucking blows." she grumbled, and made her discomfort known! "We're not going to encounter shit out here, and through the industrial district? I bet we'll encounter three Virus Carriers and maybe a MA-069, if we're lucky! Shit man, this fucking suuucks!" She griped, letting the RPK fall to her hip as she held the sides of her head and shook it furiously!

The beast was huge, like much of its brothers and sisters, its large jaws snapping at the displaced Umbrella personnel and snarling madly at them!



It was a large creature, capable of devouring a human whole, and within moments of being shot at by small arms fire, showcased this personally by scurrying up to the offenders, tail lashing them away save one, who screamed as she turned her massive head to them and scarfed them up inside her massive, slimy jaws! Their legs pedaled fiercely as she jerked her head back twice, their jerking legs disappearing with the rest of their screaming, wriggling body as a film covered her eyes and she jerked her head back again... and swallowed deeply...

The refreshing meal helped rejuvenate the free BOW as she gasped- steam flowing from salivating jaws as it began to claw its way through the caravan! It trashed the prototype Tri-squads with ease, slashing through them with her claws, and even attempted to swallow one- but quickly spat it out for its... disagreeable taste! The slimy projectile slammed into another USS envoy, whom she slammed her tail onto and then flung across the forest- their body hitting the trees with bone snapping force! It let out a terrifying roar as it bit and clawed through those still unfortunate to not have fled by this point!
