Background & Other Details:
A rather rare Italian 9mm handgun not often seen in the United States that was discontinued in 1993. Though it is rare, there are some examples of the weapon in Raccoon City brought in by the Kendo Brothers when they tried to get Beretta to continue the product once more for RPD STARS use, with a handful circulating the Raccoon Police and Kendo Gunshops. Its also utilized by some Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.) and Umbrella Security Service (U.S.S.) as it was a weapon they trained with on Rockfort Island's Military Training Facility. Its also utilized by some Umbrella Staff.

The Beretta 93R was designed to be used by the Italian counter-terrorism forces of the national police Nucleo Operativo Centrale di Sicurezza and Carabineri Gruppo di Intervento Speciale (both formed in the late 1970s in response to terrorism) but was also adopted by other police and military forces who required a concealable weapon with rapid fire capabilities. The pistol is a development of the Beretta 92 design.

The Beretta 93R is mechanically similar to the Beretta 92. It can be selected to fire either a three round burst or single fire. A selector switch enables the operator to alternate between the two firing modes. The pistol is fitted with a collapsible angled foregrip at the front end of the trigger guard to provide better stability when firing. A folding steel buttstock can be attached at the heel of the grip. The Beretta 93R is much more controllable compared to other machine pistols because it was designed with only a three round burst mode as well as a ported barrel.

Rockfort Island Prison Guard and Military Officer Issue:

As mentioned, the general Umbrella Staff of Rockfort Island's Prison Camp and Military Training Facility as well as the Antarctic base (mostly by Prison Guards), were issued a 'de-modified' M93R that could only be fired in semi-automatic mode, and was issued with a 15 round magazine. However, there were some on the island, from the military training facility, who had access to custom parts that would allow the weapon to be fired in bursts once more, with an extended barrel and state of the art compensator along with a folding stock for greater aim. The wooden grips were also replaced with black rubber or hardened plastic checkered grips to keep the weapon from slipping when firing in burst fire mode. Like the others, it can also equip the 20 round extended magazine.
